I have just adopted another dog and his eating habits are rather scary. He eats as if he has never seen food before I know this is not the case as my sister owned him before and he was well looked after.I have 2 other dogs who actually stop eating their food when they see him eating his as he ravishes it so quickly. What can I do to make him eat slower and enjoy his food.My other 2 are very delicate eaters quite odd as they are all choccie labs.Any advice would be appreciated.

Gunner is fed separately already and I am at present feeding him handfuls of food rather than putting the dish down to him and making him wait between handfuls the other 2 dogs are no threat to his food.

Divide the total amount of food over the day - giving it just a portion at a time. If this is a puppy, you can divide it as many as 3-4 times. A 6-month old, 2-3 times a day.
As far as the other dogs go, it might be best to feed this dog separately for a while. We just got a dog from the shelter, and she wanted to take her bones off to a corner - as if she thought another dog might take it from her. We taught her to eat them where they are given. She no longer fears it will be taken from her, though sometimes I take food from her to socialize her (the first time when she got a piece of rawhide off her bone that she could choke on). Most of the time, when I take a bone from her for socialization, I give it back in a minute or two. She is learning to trust.
Yesterday was her first full day at our home. Her first meal she gobbled up. This morning I gave her 8 ounces, and she made a dent in it, then went off for a nap. I keep in mind she now eats about 2 cups a day, plus a bisquit.

It might be because the dog is used to eating alone and feels threatened by the other dogs. Maybe he feels that he has to eat quickly or the other dogs will eat it instead. Try feeding him separately from the other dogs and see if it makes a difference. If not I wouldnt worry about it too much. He might just be a fast eater. All dogs differ and have different characters.

He might have worms. But he has likely learned to wolf down his food quickly, which is natural for animals especially if they've had to find their own food and go without for long periods. It's a survival instinct. Feed him separately from your other animals. Eating quickly won't harm him, he may never change this habit.

Clean rocks in the dish will slow it down or feed out of an ice cube tray- will take longer for dog to get to the food.

Feed the dogs separately. He is in competition with the other dogs for food, in his world.

Sometimes dogs just scarf down their food, because if they haven't been on a normal eating schedule, they don't know when their next meal will be and they don't want to miss a crumb!

He is worried that the others will eat his food if he doesnt get it down him quick enough, I would feed him in a different room and see if it helps. Also possibility of worms?

first off feed him away from the others.have you taken him to the vet, he may need treatment for parasites. check him for food aggression, try to take his bowl from him when he is eating, if he growls or bites you have a problem. it could be he just eats fast, some dogs do, don't worry about it.

Put a big rock in the center of his dish. He will have to eat around the rock, and that will make him eat slower.
