Isn;t it odd, even the Mayan calenders on the Western hemisphere start roughly 6000 years ago.. which leans in the driection of mankind spreading out over the earth after the tower of Babel civilizations across the world arose almost simultaneously about 4500 years ago... this is more consistent with mankind spreadign out after the tower of babel than spontaneous evolution
.
These has been a landmark eight year study called RATE (Radio isotopes and the age of the earth) and concerns many things but two of the most interesting new results relate to C14 which turns out to be the creationist friend... and.. the helium byproduct of Uranium breakdown in zircons which are acknowledged the oldest things on earth
- C14 is pressent accross the entiere geological column and even in cambrian diamonds... in roughtly the same amounts... when tests coal samples from accross the geological column had roughly constant C14 and even cambiran diamonds had the same amount... since C14 has a half life of 5600 years one would expect virtually none after hundreds of thousands of years... but samples with millions, tens of millions and hundreds of supposed million years had roughly .1% This leans in favor of a young earth and a geological column laid down largely at once during the flood of Noah
- Helium byproducts from Uranium breakdown in zircons. Uranium breaks down leaving 8 helium nuclei... we can examine the helium. the presence of high amounts of the original alpha particles (helium nuclei) in zircons. About 40% oft he original helium from decay of uranium is still intact in the zircons and the rest hasn't moved much father on tested sample Helium has high diffusivity and it would appear a young earth < 10000 years would be needed to account for this. HOWEVER the other daughter elements would lean in the old earth direction although they dont agree with each other and are in no means very accurate... one can theorize something happened in history that
changed the rates... probably during the flood of Noah
There are several articles concerning RATE at
http:/ www.answersingenesis.org
as far as the BIble.. Jesus said there were prophets from the beginning of creation.. sacrifices from the beginning of creation... marriag from the begining of creation... Jesus and Moses clearly were what we would call young earth creationists in their views

The bible does not give an actual estimated or stated age for the earth. The 6,000 year old figure is one most commonly used by christians. However as I said this not a bilical statement. it is a decree by a church leader whose decrees were law and death followed disagreement with such kingly decrees.
Creationist claim the earth is 6000 years because the bible says so knowing full well the bible says no such thing. They attempt to explain the earths age by counting who begotted who and came up with 6000 years. however were you to take this kind of counting into consideration you would come up with millions of years which the church cannot withstand as that would be before god.
The new testament replaced the old testament but few christians see this as anything other than an upgrade much like on a computer. Actually the idea behind the new testament was that the old could not withstand educational advbancement. For hundreds of years christians (and thousands of years before than ) taught that you would fall off of the face of the earth if you went too far off of the known sea lanes as they were sure the earth was flat. christians gladly killed anyone who professed to believe different, yet they one and all were later proved to be liars when columbus crossed the ocean blue. Before than christian leadership and the faithful would gladly kill you if you professed to beleive that the earth was not the center of the universe, yet they were proven to be lairs one and all.
The earth is billions of years old and christians have been proven to be liars one and all.

Good luck getting answers on this one. The bible alludes to an age of about 6000 years - supported by - guess what - the bible, rendering that evidence meaningless. There is no scientific evidence or any evidence outside the bible to support that age, in fact, the evidence to indicate an age of 4.5 billion years or so is so overwhelming that no open minded person with a functioning brain would ever deny it.

The earth is just over 5 thousand years old. That's 2 thousand years younger than when Sumarians started making glue. But ...nevermind! How do we know? Because the bible says so!
How do we know the bible is right? Because the bible says it's right! Simple!
Scientific evidence from outside the bible? Sure, haven't you heard of Kent Hovind? He's the most well-known creation scientist and has a center with all kinds of scientific facts! You can email him with your questions while he's in jail because he has a lot of free time on his hands now :)

The Bible does not give any specifics to the age of the earth...it only says that in the beginning God created it. The Bible speaks of 6 creative days or periods in which God created all things, but those aren't literal 24 hours days. In the Bible there are various uses of the word "day" and they can range from a 24 hour period, to a generation, to a specific period of time, etc. So the creative days may well have been thousands, millions or even billions of human years each.

The Jewish time keeping (which began with creation, puts the earth at about 5767 years old. Be aware that the sun, moon, and stars were not created until day 4.Yet there was light before that. A night and day during that period (day 1-3) may be more than 24 hours as there was no sun, moon, and stars. Therefore I can not give an exact answer presently to the question; just fet one in the 'ballpark'.

The Bible DOESN'T SAY how old the earth is. Some Medieval bishop used a TRANSLATION that didn't pick up the nuances, and assumed 6000 years. But HE WAS WRONG!
Example: In the Beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. And the earth was [made] void... Any number of millions or billions of years can be inserted between those two sentences.
Oh, and Oldguy? God said, 'Let there be light', and BANG! there WAS light. Any questions?

If you calculate your way back through time using the Bible, the whole Adam and Eve scenario ends up happening roughly 6,000-10,000 years ago.
As for scientific evidence, I once heard someone say that there isn't enough mud on the ocean floor for the world to be millions of years old. hmm....
Personally, I think the Earth's age should be measured in millions, even billions, of years (and I am not an atheist, either).

Some time periods in the Bible are inconclusive. Some are literal some not. For instance a day is as a 1000 years to the Lord. Some refer to as Ages. Therefor nobody is quite sure. Planet Earth is quite the amazing place. Hopefully we humans don't jack it up. The Bible states that the second coming of Christ is to destroy those who destroy the world. You have asked a good question thanks.
