My father recently got into an accident the day of 12/29/2006. It wasnt his fault, it was the other ladys falt. When they crashed the lady fled. It was a hit and run from her part. My father and some other witnesses saw her and chased the lady but they couldnt catch her. so they took her license plate #. The cops finally got her and took her name, phone #, address, and all of that. the thing was that she didnt have insurance or drivers license. So when my dad told us, we called the phone #, and it turned out that the # she gave was from a jewelry store. and we called so many times, and it was the same jewelry store. So my question is...can i call the police station and tell them that the lady gave us the wrong phone #, or do they figure that out on their own. I mean, she might not even show up to court. she messed up our car, and now our car wont even turn on, and we had to leave it in the car pound. so yeah, i need help, thanks!!!!

I hope your father has Uninsured Motorist coverage, or otherwise he may be screwed.

There isn't much you can do at this point. Hopefully your dad has insurance coverage that will take care of your damages. Chances are if she gave a bad phone number to the cops, everything else she gave was bad also. The only thing that can happen is that a warrant will be issued if she fails to appear in court, provided she gave her real name.
If she doesn't have insurance chances are slim that you'll ever see any money from her.
The moral of this story is to carry coverage to protect yourself and contrary to what one of the other answerers said Uninsured Motorist doesn't cover damage, only injury. Collision and Comprehensive coverage is what fixes your car. If your dad has that they should fix the car with no problems, then its the insurance companies problem to get the money from the other driver, not yours.

Yes, you may inform the police, however.. contact your Insurance Co. finding out what you need to do to in order to file a claim with them, you may need to order & retrieve a copy of the police report giving one copy to the Ins. Co. Also finding out if the Ins. Co is willing to repair your car or will want to total the car. Either way, they can advise you about getting another car.
Once that is done you may want to contact an attorney in your area, in order to get some advice (the first consolation is usually Free) asking what would be the best action for your Dad and your family to follow?

Turn the information into your ins. co. and they should investigate it. They will get the accident report and in some cases will fix your car with you paying the deductible on the collision portion of it. Then they will sue the other driver for the damages and if they receive a settlement they will reimburse the amount of your deductable.

Ok, first yes most likely she will not show up in court.

And she will not pay for any of the damage you will have to sue her in civil court for that, and even if you win, you have to force her to pay by getting a garnishment.

Best bet, turn it over to your insurnace, let them pay you for the damage and let them try and get the money back latter.
