Siamese cats are very pretty but they are high maintenance cats. They tend to be very vocal so if you don't want a cat that walks around meowing all the time don't get a Siamese. They can also be kind of tempermental. Any specific breed of cat has a higher rate of health problems due to inbreeding. Of course, this is just a generalization of the breed and there are always exceptions to the rule. I personally think the plain old domestic shorthair/longhair cats are the way to go. There's such a wide variety of colors and temperments that you can pick what you want in a cat. Plus, they're a whole lot cheaper!

Siamese are gorgeous cats! My husband's family has an apple-faced siamese (the kind that isn't show quality) and he is 19 years old now. The apple-faced ones are cheaper and they have less health problems because they are built more like "regular" kitties.
Some things to consider: You can actually see them thinking. They're really smart, and will keep themselves occupied if you don't. They're also very vocal, and can sound like a baby crying. If you're not willing to have a noisy, possible trouble maker in your house, a Siamese isn't for you.

I just got a long haired Siamese cat about 3 months ago (she's 5 months old now), and she is the one of the most beautiful, loving, & playful cats I've ever owned. They are very vocal though... everytime I go out side to smoke, you can hear howling for her mama (they also get very attched to one person. She loves my husband when he's here by himself, but as soon as I get home, if I'm sitting, she's on my lap "kneading", purring and meowing. If I'm standing up or walking, she usually follows). They also do this thing that is called smurgling. It's basically like kneading, but the cat goes into a daze like state and start drooling. When I first read that, I thought.. my kitten doesn't do that.. then sure enough, about a week later she started to drool and get all dazed looking when she was kneading on my belly. I've never seen any other cat I've owned do that. Also very stubborn/determined/smart cats. As I sit here typying this, she is insistant on being on the computer desk watching the the monitor. I've put her down about 20 times, and she just keeps jumping up. She knows she'll be in trouble if she starts playing with things on the desk, so she only sits there and watches the monitor... but she keeps getting in my way. Stubborn cats.

It's rumored that people have more allergies to Siamese cats. Could be just the person themselves or the cats I'm not sure. Siamese are high maintenance and mischievous. Have u ever watched "Lady and the Tramp"? lol They are also very smart. I had one that would let me know when my new born was awake. She would actually go and check on him then run back and forth between the bedroom and wherever i was until i went to check on him. She would also try to snuggle up to him if i had him laying on the couch beside me. Warmth or being motherly who knows. Siamese are great if u r willing to be patient when they get into everything and they are bored quickly. Lots of toys and things to play with helps them keep out of your personal stuff. Hair scrunches, necklaces anything u leave out that they think is fun. lol

They're so cute! My mom LOVES them so we've had generations of Siamese cats in our house! Lol.. Some Siamese make good lap cats and some are cute little fiesty things. I say go for it!
By the way, we got our latest pair of Siamese for free from a woman whose cat had a litter. Or you can get them at shelters.. They're not as expensive as people make them out to be. And they're DEFINITELY not as tempremental as everyone says. I've had 4 Siamese so far and I've never had any problems.

Siamese cats are really gorgeous but I would reccomend going to your local shelter and adopting a cat. It will be much less expensive than paying for a purebred cat and you will be saving the cat's life. I got my cat at a shelter and she is so adorable and amazingly sweet and playful, I highly reccomend going to a shelter- and who knows, maybe you could find a siamese or a siamese mix there! good luck!

Siamese cats are beautiful - but, like a lot of purebreds, they're kinda crazy, because they're so inbred. You might be better off going to your local animal shelter and adopting a mixed breed cat - you'd be doing a public service, saving the animal from being put to sleep and you'd get a cat that would probably be a lot more even tempered.

It depends on you. I think you should go the shelter, see what cat likes you, and go with the flow. I love cats too, so you just see if it is "good enought for you. I'd reccomend reading about them, so you get a general idea. Go to a friend's house that has a siamese cat. See if you like them.

i have never had a Siamese cat before, but i have seen them and they are beautiful. I'm not sure about the personality. i own a Himalayan cat, which is a mix between a Siamese and Persian cat. he has a great personality and lovable nature. if you don't mind the fluff.
