If there is a better place to go after this life then why mourn our dead? Shouldn't it be a celebration? We've lost them here, but they are going to recieve their ultimate reward... and if you actually believe what you say you believe, it will only be a matter of years before you are reunited with them... So why all the tears, black clothes, and such?

everyone like to believe there is something better after life, if anything at all, but everyone knows, if not liking to admit it, that the person they know is gone, and there is a miniscule chance of being reunited with them at the end of the peroid of fragility that we call life, here on earth

Even in the Bible a certain amount of time was given for people to grieve the dead. Also, a lot of people don't die such nice deaths. Would you not cry for your elderly mother who had been raped to death? What about a child who died too soon due to gang violence. Some people are actually relieved for the death of a loved one who has suffered for many years before their death, but they still grieve for that person is no longer here with them. I guess you're that type of person who has to walk in another's shoes before you understand, which is sad because that means you don't have the capacity to feel for others.

It is the loss of the physical person we mourn, not the spirit. The spirit goes onto the summer land where it waits for the next time it decides to be born again. Or whatever afterlife you believe in. People need a mourning period to come to terms with the loss of a person who has enriched their lives. To know that that person will never be there again is a huge loss. Black clothes are a historic tradition, it used to be white.

some people may mourn their loved ones because not all of them may have believed that Jesus Christ died for their sins, becuase they will miss being around their loved ones, because they enjoyed talking to their loved ones, etc. there are many reasons to mourn. if i love my family member and i believe that person is going to heaven, that doesn't mean that i'm not going to feel emotion when that person died.
actually i don't even like funerals. i think a lot of it is just a money maker for the people in the funeral business and a partial waste of time.

As a matter of fact, my wife is going to a funeral today so we just had this conversation. We grieve because we will miss having them in our lives, however we celebrate the lives they lived and the affect they had on our lives when they were here. I know that she is in a better place but that doesn't mean I won't miss her presence in my life.

I believe in the after life and I am a Christian. I am sorry I am selfish. I do not want those that I love to be taken from me. I know in time I will see them again but in the meanwhile I will miss them terribly. This is how I am selfish, they that was in pain are now free, they are with the Lord but I want them back. I cry for my loss not their gain.

Mourning is a natural human instinct. We mourn because we will miss our loved one and we will not be able to see them again here on earth, this is where another human instinct comes into play. Selfishness, we can't wait until we meet that person again because we want them in the here and now. Humans want what we want and when we want it.

I fully intend for my funeral to be a happy celebrational send off. I do not mourn the dead. I regret things i should have said, perhaps but I do not mourn their passing. I will see them again and for noe I have my memories to hold onto.
