I am translating a document which speaks about a Xmas meal composed of roasted turkey, carrots, sprouts and mince pies.

I can't find the exact meaning of "sprout". Thanks for helping

They are Brussels sprouts, a vegetable that looks like tiny little green cabbages.

For a Christmas meal with that menu, I'd have to go with Brussels Sprouts. The only other kind of sprouts would be sprouted beans or seeds, and not likely to be part of a traditional Christmas meal except if served as part of a salad.

They are a small green vegetable - picture a cabbage only a lot smaller - maybe about 1" in size. They are boiled in salted water for about 10 to 20 minutes and taste very similar to cabbage. You can add a knob of butter once you drain the water and add bacon bits or chestnuts for extra flavour. Their proper name is 'Brussel Sprouts' but they don't come from there!

Mung bean (green bean) Eastern Asia. Used in Oriental cookery. We used this bean to cook as sweet dessert soup with rock sugar.
Bean sprouts are an extremely economical and nutritious food; the vitamin content of the seeds actually increases once the seeds have germinated. They are available at Asian markets or health food stores, the beans which you can sprout yourself at home in jars. As they grow so quickly. it is possible to have a constant supply of fresh, organic vegetables.

Hope this is the right answer for you..:-)
