God is looked upon as the creator and protector.
Parents fulfil the role of god as creator and thus are akin to god.
They also nourish and protect their children and in their absence ( temporary or permanent ) the guardian does so and thus fulfil the role of god.

Can a person believe that his parents (or guardians) are like gods? Now that I have your question in correct English, I will answer it. There have been, and there are, and there will be certain cultures who revere, if not worship, their parents and ancestors. Many Asian cultures have this tradition, of believing that deceased ancestors have a continued existence. So, they may not be gods, but they are respected and revered in a similar way.

Depends what you* define as God.
God is creator of all and your parents are the creators of you biologically. Your soul departs from God when the fetus begins. However if we examine the link of our soul having part or being related to our parents soul, than this can get into interesting debate.
I remember when one great Freemason and I were talking when I first started out in Masonry and he said how we as ppl are definitely connected. I am amazed to this day how much that means after my studies got deeper.

There is only ONE God. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Any who believe otherwise are just proof of the accuracy of Proverbs 1:22-23 YBIC

In many religions, particularly Eastern ones, part of the folklore is that their ancestors, after they died, watch over their descendents, and that one can "pray" to their ancestors for aid in times of trouble. This doesn't mean that their ancestors became gods, per se, only that when one dies, one can become a benevolent spirit with the ability to affect the outcome of one's life.
There are actually quite a few people from Western civilizations who are superstitious and believe much the same thing. Many Westerners think that a dead loved one is "out there, watching over" them. It's not terribly hard to understand, given that we all want to believe in good spirits that are watching out for us.

If God was as unreliable and erroneous as most parents the universe would be in big trouble indeed. Parents have been given stewardship of their children and are accountable for the way they take care of His creation but the parents are certainly not God.

"LIKE" God, yes... whether that be a good God or evil... but definitely influential in that regard, and hopefully the person will find the true God and go on to being a good person. Jesus is God!
