When I went to seminary, it was one of the factors that contributed to my becoming an atheist. I think many ministers have serious doubts, but their careers are bound to keeping the faithful faithful. Once you know where the Bible and the religion came from, it takes an enormous intellectual suspension of disbelief to continue in the ministry.

I often wondered as a small boy if they could actually believe the things they were saying and still do the things my friends told me they were doing.

No,they believe in God. BUT , they WAY to God is what is warped in their beliefs.. After all, Satan also believes in God.
