My partner and I, are getting married in Jamaica 2008. We have decided to have all the family in the same hotel we are marrying in. I thought it would be a good occassion for all our friends, and family to enjoy themselves together with us. However, now I am thinking maybe it will take the shine away for my special day

Has anyone done is?
Would you recommend us having our wedding and potentially honeymoon in the same place as family?

My husband and I were married at Sandals Montego Bay this past November. Everyone arrived Tuesday or Wednesday, we had our wedding Friday at 4pm (perfect time for sunset) and everyone left either Saturday or Sunday. Some people chose to stay at the nearby Holiday Inn because it was cheaper, but most stayed at the resort with us. It was nice having everyone there, the resort is large enough you can still have your privacy. We only got to see those that stayed at Holiday Inn the day of the wedding because the day passes to come on to Sandals property is $80 pp. Thursday was group day, we went to Margaritaville and then had the rehearsal dinner (with everyone). The rest of the time (besides the wedding Friday) everybody got to do what they wanted. We stayed a few extra days to truly honeymoon by ourselves. The best things about a destination wedding: it's beautiful, everything is taken care of (the wedding coordinator took charge and did everything to the highest standard), and you get to enjoy a wonderful vacation with your family, and a wonderful honeymoon with your husband. Good Luck and Congrats! If you want anymore info, email me at adegonia5040@yahoo.com

Well I am obsessed with destination weddings. I actually saw a wedding done in Jamaica a couple of weeks ago and what the couple did was have the family stay in the same resort with them up until the day of the wedding. The day after most of the family members returned home and the couple were left behind to enjoy the place.

What they did was have their family members come a few days before the wedding and had all the pre wedding events there. That gave the friends and family a chance to bond but also ensured the couple would be able to be alone when it mattered most.

I'm sure you'll figure it out in the end. Just bounce ideas off a couple of close friends and ask them what they think. Let them know what your concerns are and see what they have as feedback. You can also talk to your planner about it if you have one.

Congratulations on your engagement.

Destination weddings are beautiful, I went to one in Hawaii.

It will not take the shine from your special day, it will make it even more beautiful. All your guests will get two events, a vacation and your wedding. They will love Jamaica, and top it off with your wedding, can't think of anything more wonderful.

Go for it!!! You might want to stay a few days longer than your guests so that you and new hubby can have time alone after the ceremony. If not then maybe you guys could honeymoon at a different hotel.

Best of luck and congratulations!!

My wife and I got married in 2001 in Holiday inn sunspree in Montego bay. We had 20 family and friends present. It was fantastic. Hired a steel band for £100, hotel organised a table for meal afterwards, photographer, video etc. Everyone had a great time. Just makesure you reserve a few days for you and partner to enjoy being with each other.

We had the wedding on the 3rd day as it left the other 11 days for people to enjoy the island as they see fit.

The place is so laid back and the rum is the best!

Marrying abroad is not a bad idea, but spending your (homey moon)with family members is as bad as leaving a tiger and your newly born baby in the same room.It will obviously take the shine of your special time. After the marriage you should go away somewhere and enjoy your private and special period.Good luck

I got married in St.Lucia.
I only took my bestmaid and bestman....................just the four of us and it was fantastic.
I then had a reception for all the family and friends when we got back home ............. it was another chance to get my dress on.
I would highly recommend it.
Good Luck xx
