I used to own a canary, and we always used to go to PetsMart and buy canary seed mix, fruit on a stick, and a mix of both fruit and seed on a stick that you hang from the top of the cage. He loved it! :-)

Canaries need a varied diet. The basis of a good diet is a good seed mix. I would recommend buying your food at a reliable pet store or feed store. Make sure the seed is more than just millet and is fresh.

Then your bird needs fruits and vegetables. Feed DARK greens, like kale or brocolli. Iceberg lettuce is bad for your bird, avoid it. Cooked carrot is good, or raw carrot shreaded. I used to fix mixed frozen vegetables for my birds. A bit of apple or orange can be offered.

Whole wheat and corn bread are good. A little hard boiled egg is very good for your bird, believe it or not. Leave the shell on, but be sure to remove the left overs after an hour or so, to keep it from going bad. Make sure he has a cuttlebone or another calcium source and plenty of FRESH water. Enjoy your bird!

well my personal canary is 6 foot 9 inches tall, 418 pounds and love to eat kitty cats, oh by the way he talks with a lisp, he enjoys kittys very much and plays with them before eating them live and whole, when i asked him why kittys instead of bird seed or worms, he replied, that it was a cat that killed his family and keept them from growing to full size, so every cat he eats saves a canarys family !
