im stationed in japan and i see many high performance sr20det cars and i want to find one in the states when i get back, how easy are they to get?

they have all the info you could ever want on sr20de and the turboed version (SR20DET)

Nissan does not put the turbocharged SR20DET motors in any cars in the USA. Best you can do is find a nice 240SX (Sylivia) and import a SR20DET motor, trans, engine control, and electrical harness. Then have trouble making it smog legal.

I remember hearing that in the US (or at least in some states) SR20DET's are illegal without serious modification as they don't pass emissions regulations.

The SR20DET is powerful, but the RB20DET/RB25DET/RB26DETT is even better.

I think the US is very strict about these imports, so you'll find it difficult and expensive to bring it in.
