Religion hasn't helped me one bit. Religions are man-made and Satan-endorsed. Faith in Christ has nothing to do with religion. Becoming born again as Jesus said in John 3:3 has nothing to do with religion. It's ALL about faith , no one comes to the Father except through Him (Jesus) not through man-made religions.

I was a convert about 15 years ago, when to church every week, felt peace and was compassionate during those times. I cry to myself whenever I sang hymns that meant something to me. I left church about 10 yrs ago, nowadays I pray unconditionally, I am still at peace and compassionate. I tell people that I am "retired"... I am sceptical at times about whats written million of yrs ago, after going thru so many yrs, words can change, how can we ever know that was the truth that was handled down? I don't know if its has helped me in anyway, I am what I am from then till now. At times I do think of returning to church but I am holding back, not becos I don't believe in God but becos I know that even if I don't go to church, I am still God's child in every sense of the word. I don't know whether its a sin or not for what I am doing now but as long as I don't harm anyone, I think its pretty clear that the teachings that I received is within me and will stay there as long as I live... Some people need a religion so that there's direction for them.. guess that's what I can share with you

Sadly, the way you describe religion ....is accurate.
However, a valid religion will do alot more.
It will serve as a coach.
An athete could practice all alone and acheive much, but having a coach provides a good influence.
A coach can point to a thing or two the individual might overlook.
The coach is there when the going gets tough.
ALSO......
Religion should provide answers to the big questions in life.
Why are we here?
Where did we come from?
What is our purpose?
Where are we going?
Etc.

It depends on the religion. Most, not all, seem to provide a set of rules to comply with, to control negative behavior, if followed properly. Being part of a group seems to help ensure conformity to the rules in order to gain acceptance.
People left to themselves, not following any rules of behavior, frequently go in the negative direction, although it is possible to have good behavior based on teachings of parents.
What is important is not that one follows religion in general, but that one follows one that teaches the truth about God, and gives assurance that all this positive behavior will actually have a positive reward, at least in the next life, if not this one....otherwise we are just humans involved itn the survival of the fittest here on earth, and whatever behavior we have, has very temporary results, and no (positive) future at all after death.

without God, I wouldn't be on here able to discuss what religion has done for me in the first place.
I think God/religion confirm simply existance and have allowed me to come to the understanding that I have a beginning, a point and that death is not the end. Therefore, when I miss out in this life, I suffer or I become dispondent, i see that God sustains me and reminds me that this life is not all there is.
it's up to the individual how they wish to let God change their lives and help them to be the best person they can be.
It depends on what religion it is and it's about searching for the one true God. What faith leads you in the right direction?
You say "these are things my baby brother can tell me"?, well that is interesting because Christ said - Unless you become as little children, you shall not enter the kingdom of Heaven. Ever heard Christ say "and a little child shall lead them"?
If these things are clear and easy enough for you that you feel a child could tell you, then there is no excuse for anybody, whatever age to neglect putting them into practise. The things are logical, because God is logical, therefore what is the issue? What do you want to hear??? something more unusual or profound like - telling us to stand on our head for half an hour each day and meditate ourselves into oblivion? IS caring for the poor, the sick, and loving others as ourselves and putting God first and other next, and keeping holy the sabbath day and praying and doing good just too simple for you?
Isn't it right that God should place out a simple guideline and confirm to us in our conscience that this is the right way to behave and treat eachother and those that disagree or put you down for applying the logical kindness in life, you can point them to the book and confirm what all of us should be doing.
God, religion etc, is about getting us to place our minds on the higher things (Heaven, Hell, existance etc). In doing this, one tends to be more aware of their life, of others and it's a good feeling to know that to be good, though at times uncool in the eyes of the world, is confirmed in the good book and to fight the good fight.
To compromise the truth for the sake of so-called peace, is a person too afraid to rock the boat. But in the bible we are asked to stand up for truth in the face of opposition and hold our ground. God/religion has made heros out of many people, and it's been used by others and twisted for their own very UNgodly cause and given religion and God a bad name. People tend to blame God and religion, even when they are fully aware it may have been abused and twisted out of context.
Either we read and accept the truth as is taught, or we decide we are above it, and think it's too childish for me, too simple, and how can something so simple be true? So many people seem to think they're too superior for the clear and simple words of the bible, as becuas a child can understand them, this is somehow an insult to those who feel their intelligence is just too refined and superior for it. When in actual fact, so often it's pride and the anabiity to admit that we all need guidance and need to become as little children and less like a haughty adult.

religion "per se" is of very little importance.
what is important is YOUR personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
don't get hung up on "religion".
please read John 3:1-16

For starters, believing in the One Eternal God The Creator makes me feel complete. Whenever I'm down and in great despair, I can always turn to God in prayer; I can always remind myself of His promised bounties and rewards waiting for His obedient and righteous servants.
For instance, "O you who believe! Seek help with patient perseverance and prayer; for God is with those who patiently persevere" (Holy Quran, 2:153)
So, we're not alone. I feel that I'm not alone whenever He tries me with difficulties and hardships, because He had promised that He will always be with those who patiently persevere. The world is only a temporary destination, that's why there are so many pain and hardships. Believe in Him and do works of righteousness and God-willing we will return to Him with a smile on our faces.
God knows best.
Happy Eid al-Adha
Peace & Love

We have those things becuase God gave us those commands;otherwise we would be like Sodom and Ghmorrah, on the verge of destruction.
God is a good thing;man has corrupted the word of God to fit their own wants.

When I live my life, I try to live for the sake of God, I mean try to have the intention of pleasing God by the deeds that I do. By understanding that our life on Earth is finite, and surely Judgment awaits us. It isn't as simple as being nice, but rather complete submission to God. In every second of living, the struggle of resisting temptation.

Media, yet especially the internet. this is why non secular value is reducing. everybody is coaching themselves and one yet another online or by employing analyzing books. as to if non-non secular vacations would be celebrated (i do no longer extremely be attentive to what celebrations/ceremonies you're questioning of) gaining popularity than non secular ones...properly seem at it this manner, the non-non secular have in no way been so super in numbers as they are actually and their numbers are increasing the quickest it incredibly is ever been in human background as there no longer is that stigma against no longer believing
