Weapons of mass destruction was the reason we entered the war, which the U.S. forces could not find any, although Iraq has been accused of using poisonous gases against their enemies, that is why many troops wore mask in the 1st Gulf War.
An interesting interview with Gerald Ford lambast the Bush's administrations' reasons for entering the war,and he thought the U.S. should not have entered the war ,and felt like many "old school" politicians that U.S. troops should not be the world's policemen.
In the history books of American students it is called "protectionism"
Ford also stated that military force should only be used if our nations's internal security was violated or threatened such as in WWII.That is why Ford was beloved by both parties because he was one of the last President's who used common sense .
This interview was held until his death, and Ford did not know that he was being audio taped.
It was not the same interview aired by CBS,it was the interview made by one of the Watergate journalist, who I thought was interesting because Watergate's whole issue was the "secret taping' of Democrats at the Hotel.
I believe that the troops will start withdrawing in 2007 sometime in June, much like the slow withdrawl of troops during the Vietnam War.
Hopefully it won't mirror the mass exodus that happened with citizens surrounding the embassy with helicopters trying to reach U.S. ships.

Tell you again? What, you couldn't comprehend the answers given the first time? I guess we're still fighting because of lazy, immature people like yourself who refuse to do the research necessary to find out the REAL reasons and do nothing but troll for answers that fit your skewed world view. It will end when Islam stops trying to convert the world.

Refer to my question - why do Americans vote morons into the Presidency? Your political system is screwed, for a country that is otherwise pretty together.

Bush is fighting for the oil, he's fighting to try and control other countries...
He's a total failure in his own country so he moved to other countries to prove that he's still a failure.
