My gut says being the patient is what I dislike most. As a ex- RDA (license expired when hours burned down and got forgotten in the mix) i KNOW whats going on in there/ But in all honesty i know that the DDS does everything in their power to make it a pleasant process. What i hate the most is how damned expensive everything is.... even WITH insurance. I would love to find a DDS who could understand my financial situation and work with me but none will so as a result (and against my better judgment) I don't go unless I have a broken tooth .. which has only happened once.

I don't really mind going to the dentist...Been lucky I've had really nice guys...even when dealing with pain I didn't hate them.
The ONLY problem, and it's a small one, is since they deal with the mouth and are in such close proximity to the patient... they could be a little more conscientious about their own breath!
I mean I'm brushing, rinsing and taking breath freshening strips before my appointment so I don't offend anyone and then there they are with their less than fresh breath.
I guess it's good most wear masks now but still...a little effort.
You wanted to know.

Good luck with your practise, I don't know how you guys do it day after day... there are some nasty mouths out there with such poor hygiene... I'd puke everyday.

I hate shots at the dentist more than anything. he tries to be as gental as possible and he is very generous with the gas but I still freak out a little. Hes great though. I know that it is nerves more than the pain. But I cant help it.

When they do a filling and don't use anesthetic. I am 20 and have a pretty high pain tolerence but when someone is drilling in my mouth and I can feel it, it ain't good. I need another 3 fillings and I said to him "If you don't give me an injection next time you might loose a finger." I think he got the message.

I am a chapstickaholic and I am contantly putting it on. I also drink alot of water, sipping it constantly. The hour or so in the chair feels like an eterity when my lips and throat are so dry from having my mouth open. It is hard for me that I cannot put on my chapstick or drink my water!! Other than that I have no qualms. I brush 2-3 times a day, floss and use mouth rinse so I am never too worried about cavities!

Not knowing enough to be sure that the dentist is right about what is to be done. How do I know if a dentist is competent or greedy?

My dentist has this habit of starting the procedure before the freezing has set in. The result is that the freezing finally takes just at the time she finishes. Convenient for her; agony for me!

My major problem with my dentist is that his assistant is a hag. I would prefer that he has one of the sweethearts and the front desk be an assistant instead.
