Morningstar crumblers are tasty...
And I'd have to go with the mushroom suggestion.... Less processed and probably easier to find in a market.
Also, depending on the flavor, you can never go wrong with beans, chickpeas or maybe even broccoli... (mmmm broccoli) Just steam it and toss it in at the end when the pastas done...
Just make sure you check the ingredients in the seasoning. You'd be surprised... there is chicken fat in nearly everything.

Hello =)
Well......
Of course you could not use hamburger.....
But, you could chop up some portabella mushrooms (About 2 cups, chopped per lb of burger equivalent), sauteed in Olive oil, and it sure would be a tasty substitute.
Of course, you would have to read the ingredients on the hamburger helper box. Some of them probably contain some ingredients from animals, while others probably do not.
Namaste, and Happy New Year,

Do you not have anything like "ground round" where you are? It's exactly like ground beef, it's even seasoned already. It substittes very well in anything that calls for hamburger. ESPECIALLY tacos. It's great stuff. You should be able to get it in the grocery store by the tofu and veggie meat products.

For hamburger helper minus the beef, you first have to look that there is no meat in it. I think the three cheese or something like that has no meat in it. So when it comes time for the meat use Morningstar Crumblers(the reg kind). It taste really good :).

use tofu, seitan or beans in place of flesh/meat. if using tofu or seitan, stir gently! guess you could use tempeh, too. portobellos are very meaty, but you need to look closley at the ingredient list as it may contain meat flavorings, which are of course made from meat. it may already be a no-no, no matter what you make it with!
