Maybe the non-smoker hangs around smokers and thus carries their lighter or matches?

Because non smokers have more uses for them and smokes always ask non smokers for a light. Non smokers are just trying to be nice

In my circle of friends it's because the smokers want an excuse to bring the cute non-smokers outside with them, and vice versa.

smokers more than likely come from a family of smokers...so they borrow lighters and tend to not have 1

Smokers always never have any matches because they use them constantly and they are stupid,Non smokers always have matches or a liter because every one lights things such as; candles,Barbeque,fires, and you never now when your csar will break down.

The only non-smokers with lighters are the potheads and speedfreaks. To claim something never occurs and something else always occurs (in the same sentence no less) only exposes one's own ignorance and narrowmindedness.

Because the non smokers don't smoke cigarettes, they some 'other' stuff. Alot of my friends are like that.

that is a very good question i always have a lighter or matches in my bag in case i might need it but i do not smoke.

I have NEVER found this to be the case. Maybe the 'non-somkers' you hang around with are really closet smokers.
