You didn't state if you were diabetic, but since this question is stated in the diabetes section, I'll answer it as if you have or have had elevated blood sugar levels. Being overweight increases the risk of diabetes and insulin resistance in your cells. Over time, high blood sugar can damage many of the nerves in your body causing neuropathy in your extremeties as well as other organs in your body. Losing weight often improves your cells' insulin sensitivity, allowing your body to use the sugar in your blood more efficiently. People who lose weight may have better blood glucose levels and notice the symptoms of neuropathy improving over time.
Many people who have been successful at this have consulted with a diabetes educator, and/or a registered dietician/nutritionist. Consider asking if these services are included in your health plan or if referrals are available for your area.

Yes. Losing weight will help a lot because it will take the pressure off your knees. The knees absorb a tremendous amount of pressure just walking and standing everyday. Think what all that extra weight does to them. Get a good diet with your doctor and lose the weight.
