I have been very sick with a cold and bad cough for the last week and last night I took some cough syrup with codeine in it that was prescribed to me the last time I had a bad cough, but I accidently took 3 times more than I was supposed to. Of coarse I became very sleepy quickly and at that point I realized what I had done. I went to bed and woke up itching. when I woke up this morning I started vomiting. It is now 7:30 in the evening and I feel better, just still alittle quezzy. Has this happened to anyone before. How long will this take to wear off? Should I still be concerned?

I'm a nurse. Any narcotic in excess will give you a nauseated effect and/or feeling. It's only because it was too much of it in your system. Medication stays in your system for 72 hours. Listen to your body and don't eat if you can't, it will only repeat the sickly process. Take it easy and rest. Allowing the medication to fully wear off is best. You should feel better as time progress. If in fact you are feeling worsen symptoms see a doctor, but I think you will be OK.

If you don't drink or take drugs then there shouldn't be a problem. If you do drink or use drugs then you should be seen by a doctor to check for liver failure. I also get nauseous when I take too much codeine. However you really shouldn't get medical advice from the internet.

Yep, Codeine is used by addicts to get a quick fix. What you are feeling is the side effect of having a wee bit too much.(which is why addicts enjoy it) If you are only feeling queasy - drink lots of water and sleep it off. Water helps flush out toxins so i gather it should help.Don't exert yourself. Drowsiness is best slept off. If any other symptoms persists then get yourself to the Doc's.

what you are going through has happened to me. and later i did some reseach on the same and i found out that codeine is a weak version of dangerous drugs such as morhine and heroine. i would suggest you terminate your medication and speak to your pharmacist for an alternative drug. dont worry it wont be long you will be ok.
