I would love to get one, but I don't know anyhting on the breed. Do you know if they bark, are good alone, or are good with other pets.
I know it all depends on the certain dog you get but i wanted to know if anyone had some breed charateristics.
please dont send me to a dog website...I'm not an idiot.

about time someone asked about my favorite babys...... been waiting for a while for this one, my dog her name is tasha has been with me 7 years.... doesn't bark unless i make her play bark (like when i take her toy out of her reach and make her bark for it) she is an aweosme pet I have had 2 pekes in my life she is the best by far... she doesn't stray and doesn't bark, very gentle and great with kids and other pets.But..... not all pekes will be like this, there are 2 here locally in a humane society totally different from mine same size weight and looks but not good with other pets or children, so i guess i lucked out twice... both my pekes was awesome dogs, first one use to run away though.... good luck and enjoy it will be the most rewarding pet you ever had I swear.

I have two a female 9lbs and a male 12lbs. I really love the female, she is the top dog around here. My other dogs are Saints and Labs. She is pet quality and I wouldn't breed her so she is fixed. Her name is Boo. My grand daughter couldn't remember Pekingese so she refered to the dog as the Peek a boo dog. I used to take her to the nursing homes to visit the elderly. She loves everyone and has a great temperament. I am not a small dog person. She is a Huge dog in a small body. You need to watch out for dry eye and crooked teeth. Good Luck!

From my experience a pekingese is a very hyper, but loving dog. Yes they do bark and make good watch dogs. You know of course that more grooming would take place because of the long hair. I think that any dog hates to be left alone. And as far as being good with other dogs, well I think that this depends on the dogs bringing up or for lack of better words, how often he/she is around other dogs in his/her early life. I am the proud mom of 3 boston terriers and an olde english bulldogge. I hope this helps and good luck ; )

They are wonderful dogs. I have one and she is so adorable and well behaved. My pekingese is a wonderful watchdog. When someone drives up in the yard or when someone knocks or rings the door bell she barks to let us kno someone is here. she does great with my brothers dog which is a white english bulldog. she is shy around strangers but as soon as you get to kno her she is very welcoming towards you. She does not bite you unless you are hurting her and it has to be alot of pain for her to bite. Mine cant eat much of sweet stuff because it wil l make her sick on her stomach so if you get one i recommend that you dont feed her ne thing that is sweet. Mine is very good alone she doesnt tere up anything while we are gone and doesnt mess with anything either.

They don't bark, they are very short, and rapidly grow hair. Its best to get them shaved every 6 months. They love quiet. Their faces are flat and sometimes, in their later years will have asthma or other chronic breathing problems. If you get a pure breed they will need to go to the vet. I won't say their high maintenance, but it may cost you a pretty penny to keep one. Overall they are the perfect house dog.
