The one called earth balance is really good! It is vegan and i get it at the regular grocery store!! the first two people that answered are really dumb!!!! most margarine still has butter or milk in it and everyone knows that real butter has dairy in it DUH. the earth balance is the only one at the regular stores that has no dairy besides mebbe smart balance.

My daughter has a severe dairy allergy so i'm always looking for true dairy-free products. Most margarines contain whey or milk proteins- trust me, I've read every label in the supermarket. The only common brand I've found is Fleiscman's (sp?) lactose-free. Whole Foods has a couple really tasty ones too. Soy Garden is the one we get there and it tastes really good and is 100% vegan.
In response to another post- I've tried Earth Balance and it is really delicious.

You'd have to check at the health food store near you but I am pretty sure they have soy butter/margarine. I wouldn't use margarine because I have seen the e-mail go around that margarine is alot like plastic. Yuck.....

There is no such thing as dairy-free butter. All margarines are dairy-free. They're made from vegeteble or corn oil (but not necessarily organic). There are products out on the market with "butter flavor" but if you're vegetarian, I'd hope that you're concerned about the chemicals and addiitves in that stuff.

Shedd's Willow Run is a vegan margarine. It might be a bit more difficult to find though. Check for it in the healthy part of the store. It is an excellent substitute. I've been using it for years.

All butter is dairy. You could probably spread tofu on your toast.
