what sugar is healthier for you and all round better?

Some health gurus would tell you that the two are virtually equals in healthiness, but you may want to know the difference.

Fructose naturally occurs in fruits and vegetables, but it is extracted from these and their sucrose counterparts in commercial use. Fructose just doesn't contain sucrose which enables it to be metabolized without insulin so diabetics can use it.

Unrefined raw brown sugar (not sugar commercially made brown) or any unrefined sugar just doesn't have the stimulant effect like refined sugars, requiring the body to use more energy to metabolize it (thus the sugar high and crash)

I would personally recommend using evaporated cane juice. It retains the sweetness of raw, pure cane and it retains most all of the nutrients and vitamins making it a very (I think most healthy) alternative to other sugars.

All of them are about the same.

Raw, unrefined sugar is a tiny bit better, because it is not completely refined.

Brown sugar is refined white sugar with molasses added back. If you have a recipe that calls for brown sugar, used sugar and molasses to get the same effect.

Fructose is a refined fruit sugar, and is not better. It is very sweet, and is usually used to sweeten with a few less calories.

When it comes to calories and the effect on the body, all are the same. The only difference is the impurities of the raw sugar, or the molasses in the brown sugar.

Sugar is not a poison. However, it is an empty calorie food. Everyone should consider the total amount of sugar in the meal pattern, because it offers nothing for the body except calories.

I'm not an expert but in general things that are closer to there original state are healthier and since unrefined sugar has more minerals and such I would say that it is healthier.

Fructose is more complex and is broken down more slowly in the body.
