Some things you can do immediately are: Cut down drastically on salt intake. Exercise!! Very important, and drink more water.
You do not have to belong to a gym to exercise, go for a walk every day. You can use a treadmill, you can walk around the block a few times, you can walk your local mall, do a few laps without stopping to shop ;-) Just move. Cut down on fatty foods and foods high in sugar. NO SMOKING. Smoking is a leading cause in high blood pressure. See your doctor. Something as simple as a water pill can bring down blood pressure and help you keep it down. Stress is also a huge factor. If you have a lot of undue stress from work, family, bills, etc., find ways to help yourself out of these situations, and avoid stress causing situations whenever possible. Best of all possible luck to you.

Eat potassium rich foods, avoid table salt, drink 2 liters of water daily, get 30 minutes continuous exercise daily. If that doesn't do it, you need to see a doctor for medications to bring it down.
High blood pressure over time causes terrible damage to the body's systems, all of them.

Avoid sodium (yeah, I know it's a pain) and see your doctor to try and find the reason for it. You can lower it somewhat through exercise. Don't try a potassium-rich diet without knowing the cause, because potassium won't lower your blood pressure. If you have undetected kidney disease (this is one cause), you'll be advised to avoid potassium, or at least potassium chloride salt substitutes ("lite" salt). For anything more than mild hypertension, you'll probably need medication. Lifestyle changes alone won't cut it.

Go to the doctor. If you have high blood pressure the longer you go without medication the more damage you do to your heart.
