Honestly you don't need as much protein as people think. The time in your life when you need the MOST protien is like somewhere between 6 to 18 months and by nature (if you believe in that way of thinking) you are supposed to be drinking breast milk not munchin on a juicy steak. So if we need less now than we did then...think about it. Anyhoot...I have been a vegetarian for about 10 years now. I am 24 and somehow managed to get through weight lifting classes and maturing and giving birth by simply using beans and soy products. My hair and nails grow as fast a an avid meat eater and I don't even ensure that protein is in every meal. You can get every vitamin, mineral or what have you by eating a variety of vegetables and fruits. If you are worried about B12 (which some people think you HAVE to eat red meat for) the simple combination of red beans and rice actually will do you just fine in that arena...if you are still worried you can take a vegetarian B12 (you have to look for vegetarian because others are derived from beef products). But as I stated you don't need as much as most people think. Meat used to be a side dish or a delicacy if you will but somehow it has gravitated to the center of our plates...so much so, that most Americans (not sure about other countries) first think of what meat to serve and THEN they consider the "side dishes"...not how it's supposed to be.
But that's just the opinion of a whacky vegetarian...take it for what it's worth. I hope it helped.
P.S. I forgot nuts! Oh and if you wanna try something...look for Edamame...they are soybeans...boil them and sprinkle a tiny bit of sea salt on them...my kids and husband LOVE them and they are FAR from giving up meat.

I read in a book about going vegetarian that meat eaters get WAY too much protein, and vegetarians still get too much. You don't have to worry about it. But if you do think you need more protein, you can eat
⥠tofu
⥠nuts
⥠beans
⥠tempeh
&hearts, cheese (but not for vegans)
Also, meat is the source of vitamin B12. To get it in a veg diet, you can eat
⥠yeast extract (A.K.A. marmite)
Hope I've helped!

You can try eating any of these:
1. Tofu
2. Lentils (very high in proteins)
3. Beans
4. Soybean (nuggets)
5. Dried fruit and nuts.
6. Cheese
7. Protein shakes. Just make sure they do not have gelatin in them.

Eating a wide variety of non-animal based foods will ensure that you get everything that you need in terms of protein and all other macro and micro-nutrients.
You might try educating yourself on this one.
