this girl tryied to tell me that she took my 19 month old nephew to the hospital and they gave him an antibiotic shot and a precription for an atibiotic due to a server chest cold. If it where that server shouldn't he be hospitalized, also considering the fact that her son who is 9 months old was just in the hospital for a phemonia.

Yeah, not always necessary to be hospitalized. They probably gave a shot of steriods and gave antibiotics to take at home. A chest cold is usually just a viral problem and would most likely resolve on it's own anyway. If your nephew had pneuomonia, then they should have been able to have caught this when he was checked out - and thus may have been hospitalized then.

Overall, most likely your nephew isn't too sick and thus doesn't need to be hospitalized. This time of year comes with many viral infections. They usually seem much worse than they really are. But the majority can be treated at home.

not really, She probably took him to the hospital because either her doctors office was booked or closed so she had no choice, if she felt she needed him to see a doctor immediately. Also, a 9month old child with phnemonia is highly suceptable to death, that is why he was kept in the hospital, from the ages of 0-1year phnemonia ='s automatic hospital stay

if its a simple respiratory infection and they are on antibiotic there is no need to be hospitalized..I'm sure they told her if he seems worse,has trouble breathing etc to bring him back to the er...hospitals are full of germs and being a child they are more susceptible to picking up things from there and such and if threes no need to be there as a patient then home on meds is the best place to be
