Yes, condoms can prevent STDs!
A good quality LATEX condom can prevent transmission of chlamydia, gonorrhea, HIV and Hepatitis B. And yes, they can prevent pregnancy, too.
The problem is, condoms aren't perfect. They fail about 15% of the time because people don't apply them correctly, break because the user didn't add lube, slip off during penetration, or because the guy said, "Oh come on, baby, I'll just slip it in for a second, then I'll put it on."
When used CORRECTLY, a condom's effectiveness is almost 100%. Occasionally, a condom might slip or break even if used carefully. Nothing is foolproof. Abstaining is the best way to avoid STDs, except that a lot of people fail at abstaining.
The hitch is, condoms can't cover ALL of the genitals. Herpes, HPV and syphilis are spread through skin contact. No penetration, no fluids required. Because the condom can't cover all of the crotch, there is still enough skin contact during sex that these STDs can still be spread. Still, using a condom is WAY better than not using one. They still do offer some proection, but it's far from perfect.

even with condoms, u still have a 15% chance or so of spreadding a STD (because some STDs come from other pratices during sex) about pregnacy though, i am not sure but i am positive there is a VERY VERY slim posibility for u to get pregnat even if ur partner has a condom on, this is because condoms have holes in them, even latex! atm there is no "perfect condom" however if u want to have sex ALWAYS use a condom to prevent pregnacy! its the only way, remember 1% less of a risk is a HUGE deal.

Condoms if used properly and if the fit is proper aids in the protection of std's and pregnancy. Nothing is 100 percent but abstinence. I hope this was helpful.
