A friend of mine was forced by his wife to go out to eat at a Chinese restaurant with other people. He HATES Chinese food. He was quite disgruntled about it and tried to hide it, but must have lost it because halfway through the dinner, he said to everyone, "I wonder what kind of "CAT" this is?" as he holds up a piece of CHICKEN!

How does one even react to this?

One doesn't react to this. One ignores it as a temporary lapse of courtesy and hopes it does not repeat. I would look at him and then go on with my meal. I'd apologize to the mgt if anyone else heard it and explain that my friend was a jerk.

His wife knows pretty well , he hates chinese food. In spite of that if he is forced to go, then it's bad. His wife should have clue about her husband's general behavior. So , if she knew she hates it that much, she should not have taken him there in the first place.
But what he did was wrong. If he really hated the place, he could have just gotten some steamed vegetables or just ordered some drinks and explain to the guests, that he does not like chinese food, but that his wife does, and he was happy to meet all of them and just wanted to be part of it. If you don't like something, you don't have to eat it.
Next time, his wife and everyone else would truly would have understood , and there won't be a second time with him at a chinese restaurant.
But if his wife was really forcing him to really eat at the chinese place by definitely ordering chinese food, that he hates, then I don't blame him at all. It's a lesson for his wife. And he shouldn't stick around with a peson like her either, if she's so forceful and inconsiderate.

P.S : It's interesting how the guy doesn't get any support here. If this questoin was reversed where the wife was forced to eat chinese by her husband (what she doesn't like) , then everyone will be supporting the wife. I'm a very impartial person. You can look at my answers and history. First of all forcing anyone to do anything is wrong . But forcing someone to do something they really hate is even worse, PERIOD. And regarding his behavior, he already failed explaining to his wife before getting to the chinese place. So he just used his last weapon.

I can understand him being upset with his wife. And he should have had the gumption to take up the subject with her...not make tasteless disparaging remarks about another groups ethnicity or make every other diner in the room cringe and feel uncomfortable. He was a boor of the worst kind and a bully...it's just unfortunate that the management didnt ask him to leave as I certainly would if he had been a member of my party. That kind of thing isnt necessary no matter why or if he was upset...he should not have gone if he was that childish...or as someone else said..ordered from the kiddy menu as he obviously cannot handle a dinner like an adult.

If you have a chop stick in your hand (and you are absoluely certain that it is chicken and not cat) you can wave the chop stick around frantically while yelling 'ah so asp hole'
However, did you ever think that maybe he loves the food and hates the people he has to eat with.

That is so funny. He's wife is a ***** for making him eat there since she knows he doens't like it. I don't blame him one bit. I would have said the same thing, in fact I say it everytime by boyfriend brings it home. Besides, who really wants to eat house hold pets???.....Not me!

She should have grab him by the ear and taken him outside and given him a spanking just like you do to every little ma'am's boy. Forced him? Tell your friend to grow some nuts, what a whoos

He hates chinese food because he hasn't tried the REAL chinese food.

He probably was pissed but that was kinda rude.

Yeah, that's pretty rude to say the least. How do you react? Never eat out with this person again. I hope they spit in his food.

You laugh and ignore him. Then later, when he is asleep, you slap the crap outta him and tell him that if he ever does something like that again, you'll slap him in public.
