There are children alive today who were born with HIV 17 years ago, before the newest treatments became available. We expect the lifespan to increase significantly as the new treatments are applied.
HIV/AIDS is no longer the death sentence it was once considered. New drugs make it possible for people who are HIV positive to live for years without getting AIDS. They can work or go to school, make friends, hang out, and do most of the things other people can do. They will have to take certain medicines every day and see their doctors pretty often, and they may get sick more than other people do because their immune systems are more fragile.
It is recommended that all babies born to HIV positive mothers receive a 6-week course of oral AZT to help prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV. This oral AZT regimen should begin within 6 to 12 hours after the baby is born. Some doctors may recommend that AZT be given in combination with other anti-HIV medications. In addition to HIV treatment, the baby should also receive treatment to prevent P. carinii/jiroveci pneumonia (PCP).
The recommended treatment is a combination of the medications sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim. This treatment should be started when the baby is 4 to 6 weeks old and should continue until the baby is confirmed to be HIV negative. If the baby is HIV positive, he or she will need to take this treatment indefinitely.

yeah they are born with hiv not aids. if their diet is good and take the meds they should they can live 100 years i think. its the aids complications that mess u up. aids is auto immune difincy syndrome. its not like cancer it makes ur body weak so if u keep ur body strong it cant do as much harm as quicky. im not saying ur gonna live forever but u can stil have a happy and productive life! and if ur a female there are drugs being used in africa where u dont pass it on to your babies! so if u got invetro you could still be a mom! isnt that great!!

It is possible by proper care and management. Remember AIDS is a breakdown in your immune system. So if one is careful not to be unnecessarily exposed to diseases, then one can prolong life. But of course, the aids virus will always manifest itself eventually and will cause death.
