Homestasis - the body's ability to maintain normal function.

After having a heart attack the heart may not be able to continue to pump blood throughout the rest of the body. The body requires circulating blood to deliver oxygenation, to take away waste products, and to circulate other chemicals (hormones, etc) that are used to control systems (e.g. maintain function) through the body. If the main pump fails then a substantial portion of the bodys' functions fail - thereby upsetting homeostasis.

A diabetic does NOT have trouble breaking down foods, they do however, have difficulty getting the glucose into the cell. This is what the hormone insulin is for, it is a helper hormone, it escorts the glucose through the cell wall to be used for energy. Has nothing to do with the liver. Homeostasis is the normal balance of the body systems, obviously a diabetic is always out of balance and must work to maintain that by monitoring glucose levels and keeping them normal.

During a heart attack your heart muscle begins to die due to a blood clot or plaque buildup in the coronary arteries (arteries on the heart). The clot/plaque interrupts the flow of blood and oxygen to the heart which in turn causes muscle death. In order for homeostasis to be maintained all the organs in the body need to be able to do their job properly and since the heart is what pumps oxygenated blood to all the organs in the body, once the heart is at risk you're whole body is at risk of losing oxygenated blood. Until the heart attack is stopped and bloodflow is regained you will stay in danger of death. Homeostasis cant be maintained if one of the major organs isn't doing its job properly or at all.
