I HAVE DIABETES AND WORK FT. AM ABLE TO WORK FT. BUT NOT AFTER 7 pm BECAUSE IT MESSES WITH MY EATING HABITS. I ALSO HAVE LEUKEMIA, WHICH MY WORK DOESN'T KNOW I HAVE THAT. THEY DO KNOW THAT I HAVE DIABETES. MY DR. WHO MANAGES MY DIABETES DOESN'T WANT ME WORKING PAST 7, AND MY ONCOLOGIST DOESN'T EVEN WANT ME TO WORK, BUT I HAVE TO. I HEARD YESTERDAY THAT I MAY BE KNOCKED DOWN TO PT SINCE I CAN'T WORK PAST 7. I WOULD THEN LOSE MY INSURANCE, WHICH I DESPERATELY NEED. THEY LET OTHER PEOPLE IN MY DEPT. ( I WORK RETAIL ) BASICALLY CHOSE THEIR HOURS FOR OTHER JOBS, SCHOOL, GOING TO CHURCH,ETC... THEN WHY AM I POSSIBLY GOING TO BE PUNISHED BECAUSE I HAVE A CHRONIC DISEASE? IS THIS LEGAL?

Hey dont use caps, its considered shouting....
Anyway to answer your question, you need to get legal advice. Maybe you should be off sick especially if your oncologist says you shouldnt be working.
You cannot be penalised because you are ill;

There are plenty of diabetics who work shiftwork. It's called packing a lunch. If they cut your hours, they will just say it's because you aren't available for when they need you. Your insurance is very important to you right now & you don't want to lose it. I would ask a lawyer just to be on the safe side. You have to prove the illness is the reason they cut your hours. They will of course deny it. Best of luck to you.
