Was your hemoglobin a "5"? NEVER, I REPEAT NEVER begin taking iron supplements without a Doctor's approval. I have a condition called Hereditary Hemochromatosis...my body makes too much iron and then cannot dispose of the excess. It is a Hereditary condition and is more common than most people think. My symptoms were almost identical to anemia (not enough iron..and because of the HH, my blood is very thick, like sludge almost, which is one cause of the tiredness)..."H-H" causes MANY health problems in people who are symptomatic (have symptoms like I did). In some, no symptoms occur. Go to WebMD to begin your search. Most lab levels for ferritin (your iron level in your blood) are way too high...(this is caused by the enormous number of people with undiagnosed HH raising the accepted levels for labs)...normal for a female is 25-50..HH usually causes raised hemoglobin and hematocit levels, but not always. Having a low hemoglobin (normal is 11-12..roughly) does not necessarily mean you are anemic. PLEASE have your Doctor do more tests...specifcally a ferritin (your acutal iron level) and a TIBC (Total Iron Binding Count) to give you a true look at what you're dealing with. Always have your Doctor explain to you your lab results. Have him/her go over them with you. It's YOUR body..you have the right to know everything that is going on with it. I have RLS (Restless Leg, IBS, and other icky things...)...too, and Requip has been a God-send. Everyone should pay attention to their bodies...MAKE your Doctor explain to you what may be going on (and if he/she won't, then you need to change Doctors!!!)...
