Okay, listen closely:

Before a person (male or female) gets AIDS, they must first contract HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus). To contract HIV they must exchange bodily fluids with a person who is infected with HIV. So how do they exchange bodily fluids? Generally during sexual intercourse.

Normal friction during sexual intercourse causes miniscule tears in the vaginal wall and along the penis. If a female has sex with a male who is HIV positive, she is at risk of contracting HIV through blood to blood transfer or semen to blood transfer. A male is also at risk for the same reasons if he has sex with a female who is HIV positive. A man does NOT have to have anal sex with another male in order to contract HIV. Anal sex does increase the risk of contracting HIV because there is more tearing and bleeding involved during anal sex, whether it be a male or a female.

HIV is the precursor to AIDS. Once a person has contracted HIV they may develop AIDS. The HIV virus destroys the immune system in an infected individual. HIV or AIDS does not kill the person, a secondary infection is what kills them. Once they have full-blown AIDS their immune systems cannot fight off infections and these infections will eventually kill them.

You can not get an infection from someone who is not infected. They may be in the initial stage though where they are infected but the test is negative. You can be tested after 6 weeks but the test may not be reliable. 3 to 6 months should be more reliable and often a retest is suggested .
