I have been told by a Public Health Nurse that you can carry it up to 10 years without symptoms, but then I read on the website below that 1 in 5 Americans have Herpes and 1/3 of people are asymptomatic, that means they have NO SYMPTOMS. So they don't know they have Herpes. Also some women can have herpes lesions inside the vagina where they are not visible unless the Dr. sees them. Best advice? Use a condom no matter what.

It depends on the person. With most people, the incubation period is about 7-26 days before showing symptoms. With others, they never have symptoms, meaning they never have an outbreak.

The key to avoiding an outbreak with herpes, and most viruses, is to keep your immune system boosted up. Take a good quality multivitamin. Drink lots of clean water every day. Get plenty of exercise. Eat tons of fruits and vegetables. Learn about herbal medicine, what might work for avoiding herpes outbreaks. Astragalus, for example, is a good immune boosting herb against most viruses. Make sure you are getting 7-8 hours of sleep. Do yoga to keep your mind free and clear from worry and try to handle stress as best you can.

A carrier of the virus can have it in their body for an undetermined amount of time.
