Your body is producing more phlegm due to the irritants in cigarette smoke.
The only way to get rid of it, and the cough that goes along with it is to......................stay with me here...............quit smoking.

Think of it this way. If you were in a burning house, your lungs would produce more phlegm to get rid of the smoke particles in your lungs and your body would make you cough to move that smoke out. Same thing just smaller doses.

You should go to the doctor and have them evaluate the cough. Cigarette smoking is probably affecting it but may not be the issue.

You could also have allergies, beginning symptoms of asthma or some sort of easily cleared up lung infection - something else?

Of course the doctor will advise you to quit smoking- you should still get seen and think about quiting. You will probably feel better and there is no time like the present to quite.

It's easier to quit when you aren't feeling well. They don't seem to taste the same.

He might also be able to help you by prescribing anti-smoking drugs.
