collapsed lung?

three weeks a go acoleiuge had a breast implant op, now she has a been rushed to hospital with a collapsed lung, could there be any connection?

Yes it possible if the surgeon was rough in making the pockets for the implants. It could also be a random event and not connected, its almost impossible to say without any other info ;

I doubt it was a collapsed lung, he would have had difficulty breathing not just pain. It sounds like it may have been something they call pleurisy. The pain is generally a sharp, stabbing pain, but may also be a dull ache or a burning sensation. It is usually worse when you take a deep breath, cough, or move around. The pain is usually better if you take shallow breaths or lie on the side that hurts. Chest pain is what usually causes people with pleurisy to seek medical attention but regardless he should see go to the doctor to rule out any underlying disease. Pleurisy-The pleura that lines the inside of the chest is called the parietal pleura. The pleura that covers the lungs is called the visceral pleura. Collapsed Lung- refers to a condition in which the space between the wall of the chest cavity and the lung itself fills with air, causing all or a portion of the lung to collapse. Air usually enters this space, called the pleural space, through an injury to the chest wall or a hole in the lung. This result is called a pneumothorax.

She may have had an infection and that can cause the lung to collapse. Usually it re-inflates when the infection clears.

I am not sure if the breast implant would have had anything to do with it, unless it lowered her immune system and she caught the infection as a result ( you know through being extra tired, or run down).

Atelectasis or a collapsed lung is one of the complications of surgery. This is due to extreme bed rest so the lungs dont expand properly. It can also be caused by problems with intubation for example if she developed ventilation pneumonia. Its not a very worrisome condition and her lungs will probably inflate in a day or 2. The most important thing is that she ambulates as early as possible and practice deep breathing exercises.

I think there could be a connection, but more than likely it was an unexpected side effect which caused the collapsed lung rather than a direct correlation.

I'm a nurse. Anything is possible. If the surgeon didn't preform the surgery correctly. It's worth looking into his past and file an complaint. Also there are many attorneys that would love to look into his past on your behave. You would have to find an lawyer that will assist you, but their out there. I hope this is useful information. It's possible. If she was incorrectly intubated for anasthesia, it coulda scewed something up in there. The surgery itself is superficial to the chest cavity, there should absolutely be no cause related to the physical part of the implantaion.

yes the transplant coulda had a negative effect on the ribcage,causing it shrink and pressure/irritate the lung until it developed a hernia
