The party will probably be in March, so it's unlikely to be outside. I am considering asking guests to bring their favorite American foods, but need other ideas too. I am on a tight budget so need to do this as cost effectively as possible!

I think Fourth of July type decorations and food might be fun. You can get little US flags and other little ideas from dollar stores and kitchen stores. Also, check out your local library, and browse some of the cooking/housekeeping magazines, especially the July issues. They'll have recipes, instructions, and all kinds of useful tips.
Or, you could consider focusing on regional specialities. So instead of telling your guests to bring an American food, have them bring a south-eastern dessert, or a north-western appetizer, etc. Or do it by cities, a Chicago main dish, a Los Angeles salad, a NYC dessert, a Houston appetizer...

You could ask each guest to dress in any type of "American/Melting Pot" theme...Native American, Cowboy/Western, Hollywood, New York Style, Southern Belle, Whatever type of Country each guest decendents are from...I think you get the point, just go through some history books to decide what you want there. Same for the food list...

do some research on famous americans from history and make out flash cards
EXAMPLE:
Q: I was the first american president. Who am I?
A: George Washington
Have every one guess, whoever is the first to answer correctly gets a point and whoever gets the most points should get a prize.
go to the dollar store for the prizes they are very cheap, or lottery tickets are great too.

You could do a Thanksgiving theme...like the first settlers, who were technically immigrants and have everyone bring an item for a pot luck dinner. You could decorate with just about anything...including stuff from your native country.

Decorate your party area with things of your home country as well as American decorations, then it doesn't seem like you've totally abandoned your home country. Also, prepare traditional foods from your country as well as Americanized foods.

Do it as a 4th of July party, I am guessing it is still cold in March where you live, you can cook pick-nick type things indoors and still have fun plus no ants!!!

A cake with the American Flag could be great.I think is not expensive.A bakery can make a awesome cake like that.By the way, WELCOME to best country in the world.

Use the red, white and blue theme. Use lots of flags, and streamers, ballons. You can find lots of cheap stuff at discount stores.
