Don't believe everything you read here. Diet Coke (that you buy in the store) does not have saccharin in it. (Only the fountain versions have it). Yes, it is and always has been sugar free. Coca Cola has not been able to make up it's collective mind as to what sweetener to put in it since the beginning. Originally, it was aspartame, then saccharin and aspartame, now they're talking about putting sucralose in it, but it still remains sugar free. If you want some help managing blood glucose levels, it's much easier if you learn all you can about it here: http://www.geocities.com/seabulls69/Type_II_Diabetes.html

diet coke has saccarhine in it which has been linked to cancer. Diet colas as well as most carbonated bevereges are calcium depleters. Calcium deffiency can cause bone loss and osteoporsis. Also calcium regulates the flow of starch and other substances within the body. I would say that diet coke is more safe then regular, but if it contains caffeine it can increase bloodpressure which can affect diebetes.
I would stick to a caffeine free diet coke, if you must drink a carbonated beverage. But better would be distilled water.

I don't know if it is completely sugar-free, but I've heard that caffeine can raise blood sugar (it raises mine).
