As you will only be inviting friends, you should already be familiar with your common interests. Make a list of those and see which will work together for a party. These can be spun into a great theme which will allow you to be creative with setup, food, drinks and costume. This will create a fun atmosphere and result in great pictures from your event. My room mates and I almost always throw theme parties - Ugly Christmas Sweater, Pirates, The Big Lebowski, Michael Jackson Pajama Jam, Heaven and Hell, Ninjas and Geishas, Olympics, 80's Blazer Cocktails, etc. Your theme will reflect the tone you want to set, be it whacky, intimate or sexy.

Evite.com is a great website and should sort you out. It allows you to email invitations to all of your friends and lets everyone see who has accepted/can't make it etc. It also has very helpful hints for every type of party whether its Thanksgiving, 4th of July or whatever. It has tips for receipes, decor and unusual party ideas. It also has a calculator that tells you how much food/wine you need for your guests so that you don't buy to much...or worse yet too little. Hope this helps. Enjoy the party!

First, decide what kind of party it's going to be (dinner, ladies' night, birthday, etc.) and go from there. Look for books by Ina Garten, the "Barefoot Contessa". She will tell you everything you need to know in her book "The Barefoot Contessa Parties." Otherwise, keep it simple, simple, simple! Make only those dishes you've made before (don't experiment). If you like, you can pick a theme - it helps with the planning. Don't be scared, you and your friends will have a fabulous time! They love you, don't they?! Have fun...you can do it!

House parties are the best. That way everyone can feel comfortable. Serve finger foods, and drinks. Have music playing in the back ground. And sometime what helps is to have an ice breaker game of some kind.

Throw a party where you and your friends will feel most comfortable. Maybe your house or that of a friends. Often the best parties are the ones you have at your own home.

First decide what type of a party you want to have. Casual and relaxed with all appetizers and snacks. Casual, relaxed dinner buffet. Formal sit down dinner.
Second, plan your menu. If you are having appetizers and snacks figure out what you want to make/buy and then ask all your friends to bring their favorite appetizer or snack. This will be a tremendous help to you.
If you are having a dinner buffet or sit down dinner figure out your menu and make the main part of the meal. Ask your friends to bring sides of their choice that will go with the type of main meal you're serving.
For example, if you are having chicken, ask one friend to bring a salad, another to bring a potato dish and so on. If you have more friends the rest can bring a bottle of wine or something to drink.
I think people like to help and bring something. It makes them feel part of the party.
Another good site to find recipes is recipezaar.com.
Good luck and have fun!
