I am half korean and I have only one craving, Kae-jang, the kimchi made of fresh crab and I was wondering if anyone knew if it was ok in small amounts or if I should just avoid it till I have the baby. I asked my doctor but he has no idea what I am talking about. And I cant find a korean OB anywhere.

Congratulations! I'm currently living in Korea. You will be fine eating kae-jang in small amounts as long as it is properly handled and stored. The risk of food poisoning is small and sanitary preparation and storage will decrease any possible negative effects. Good luck!

I don't know what Kae-jang is but I had a Korean neighbor that fixed kimchi with crab or some kind of seafood for me when I was pregnant. I ate TONS of it. It was all I craved was Kimchi. Her husband kidded me that my baby was gonna be born Korean. I still love it but not with quite the intensity. The only problem that you might have to worry about is sodium. Take the doctor a list of ingredients. I really don't think it will hurt you except it might give you serious heartburn. :) I don't know how it is made, but Korean women have been eating it for centuries. I seriously doubt it will do anything to you or your baby.

If teh crab is raw, but marinated or "cooked" in an acidic liquid for some time, it is probably fine in small amounts.

Cravings while pregnant can often signal vitamin deficiences. Tell your doc exactly wha tis in kae-jang. If it is tart, you may need more vitamin C. You could also be experiencing a prtein or iodine deficiency. Be srue you take your prenatal vitamins, ok?!

I would avoid any meat/poultry/seafood that have not been thoroughly cooked. But if you like this boiled or fried...i would say~enjoy.
