Hi. My brother quit smoking years ago and he said that the first days were the very worst. That he felt sick "sick as a dog" and then the following 3 weeks were rough on him, too. But then after that he started feeling pretty darned good. He also looked better. His color was back and he just looked healthier. Someone suggested taking some vitamins... I think that is a wonderful idea. Especially vitamin C---this is the flu season and there are lots of virus' and by quitting the cigs you are more vulnerable. Your body does need all the help you can give it right now. Try to eat right and drink lots of water over the next couple of weeks. You didn't mention whether or not you saw your Dr. That IS something you should do... He/she may have additonal info for you. As for quitting....a good decision on your part and I wish you great success!! Good luck to ya! Brenda

you can (and probably will) experience headache, flu like symptoms, cravings for cigs, very bad moodiness, fits of anger and/or depression to name a few. ALL are withdrawl symptoms. Some are physical and some are psychological. It is a fact that your body is rid of all nicotine after 3 days without any. The symptoms will still be there for a while because you are not used to NOT smoking yet. I commend you. I have quit once for 6 months and like a fool started again. I am currently setting a date of New Yr.(New Yr. resolution) to quit again.

I quit a 5 pack a day habit
I felt lousy for over a year
Got a good Dr? ask for something like Ativan, it's anti-anxiety drug, thats cheap. I only used 3 of the 10 pill script, If I didn't have the first 2, I would have gone back to smoking again
Day 3 to day 7 are the toughest

Oh you will feel so sick for a while since you were a heavy smoker...but you're on your way...give it a few weeks and you will feel so much better. But for now it's gonna feel like you just want to die!!! But in the long run look at how you'll feel about yourself and how you can not feel addictive.
I would suggest at this point...loading up on vitamins since smoking has inhibited alot of minerals and vitamins...and plus your body needs it to prevent your body from feeling fluish.
Good Job for you!!!! Join the non-smokers club...it's freaking awesome!!!

I quit in 1991 after a dozen years of cigarettes. It was my single best move in my life. When I quit, about 3 or 4 weeks later, I got sick. It was like the flu but worse. I did not think about it at the time, but a few years later it occured to me that it was probably withdrawls.

You did just the right thing!
The cough is normal(i quit 10 months ago and sometimes I still have chest pain). Also the fever. Now,your system is just confused - in couple of months you gonna feel wonderful.Trust me,pretty soon your body will be very thankful to you.
Its gonna be really hard, but believe me,your life will be much, much better without that stink.
You did not inflict anything to your body, you did it a favour.
Congrats & be strong.
