In an era when one end of the planet is starving to death and another is killing itself with a headlong rush toward obesity, this network seems to be devoted to excess and garish over-consumption. Rachael Ray seems like she's had one too many B-12 shots and Emeril Lagasse, in contrast, comports himself like a refugee from a home for the severely depressed. What is going on??

It's how people learn to cook, dude. or get meal ideas. Every weekend I tune in and get plenty of ideas for dinner the week ahead. there's quick meals. ethnic meals. comfort meals. Cheap meals. hey, in a society that gorges itself on fast food, I think it's nice for people to learn to cook their own meals and make dinner a family event. Not just shoveling fries into their piehole in the car.

While I would agree that one half of the world feasts while the other famines, I do not find this channel to be an excersize in excess and garish over-consumption. I, as well as many others, have learned to cook, or cook better, thanks to this network.

If there is any channel devoted to such a display of excess it would be ESPN for showing eating contests, not Food Netwrok for showing people how to cook. Banning Food Network because some people in the world are starving would be the equivilent to banning porn because some people can't get it up...
