Don't have the party at your house! The easiest way to spend New Year's with your friends is to go out and party and/or have some drinks at a restaurant, club, or bar (all of the above will do too!) since most places should be open till the ball drops. That way, you don't have a mess to clean up at home when all your friends leave. Me and my boyfriend are celebrating New Year's with my family and plenty of mutual friends and we're planning on inviting everyone over to our apartment to grill out then we're all going to a club. We had the same perdicament earlier this month when we didn't know what to do for New Year's.
If you don't want to go out, set some ground rules for your friends before they come over. It's your house, after all! Don't be rude about it, of course. Just let them know what you do and don't want them to do on your property. And from personal experience, if they don't want to respect your house or your rules, they will never respect you as a person.
Whatever you decide, keep it safe, and Happy New Year!

if you can't trust your friends at your house how can you think of having your party at someone else's house. Your friend who borrows you his/her house will be very hurt and resentful of you if your friends do damage to his/her home and you will end up like your friends not being trusted by others. Go to a club or restaurant and bring this one person who you want to have your party at, seems to me - this is the only person you can trust.... Get new friends.. you are too generous, seems like you know your friends too well. Sounds like they must have let you down other times, this does not sound like the first time, must have happened to you before, and if this has happened to you before, then do not let it happen again. Having fun and being generous is one thing, but it is not worth it if you are the one to pay the cost of the party and then get stuck with damages, and lost or stolen items.. plus be responsible for drunken friends getting home.

In what way don't you trust them?
lots of suggestions made I'd already offer. Why not go as a group to a cool party elsewhere? Remember do not drink and drive, or ride with a person who has been drinking, even if you think the driver is ok.

Hmmmm wonders why you would be inviting people to a party that you don't trust.....
Oh well I would suggest renting a hall (most community centers have a place you can rent usually cheaper than a hotel or a ball room) or you can rent a suit at a local hotel.

If you decide to hold a party at your pad, but don't want anything stolen/broken/raided, put your valuables away in a safe place, lock any doors that you don't want people in, and make sure you don't have anything out and about that would either be broken, or stolen.
Either that, or you hold the party at someone else's house (like one of your friends).

Simple--don't have the party. If you do have the party and something goes wrong, you will have no one to blame but yourself. Get some new friends that you can trust and then have a party.
