Latex condoms are the proven industry standard. Stick with one of the several reputable brands, such as Trojan and LifeStyles. Latex condoms are *decent* as contraceptives and are pretty good at preventing the spread of STD's, when used properly. Latex has great flexibility and tensile strength, but as everyone knows, provides significantly decreased sensation and heat transfer.

Within the general latex-condom category, there are several sub-types. I never used ultra-thin condoms, because they have a higher incidence of failure, and the risk was not worth what was (to me) a fairly minimal increase in sensation.

Also, be careful to make sure that you buy a "fit" that is appropriate for your - umm - equipment. Standard-sized latex condoms will do for 90% of the male population, but you may need a special size. Even if it's lubricated, a condom should be quite snug. Don't flatter yourself and buy the "Magnum" unless you REALLY need it. If the condom is too large, you'll slide right out of it. Same goes for the "Slim Fit." Too small, and you'll break it. Regardless, once you roll it on, it should not move at all, and the only way you should be able to get it off is either (a) to lose your erection or (b) to turn it inside-out from the base and pull it off.

Stay away from lambskin condoms. They provide better sensation, and are *okay* contraceptive devices, but are practically worthless at preventing transmission of STD's.

There are some promising and (relatively) new products out there made out of polyeurethane - yes, the same stuff they make Saran Wrap out of. Trojan Supra is one brand name, and I think LifeStyles also makes a polyeurethane condom. My wife and I haven't used condoms since these products were introduced, but I have heard that both sensation and heat transfer are DRAMATICALLY increased. According to test results (so far), polyeurethane is at least as good at contraception and preventing the spread of STD's as latex. However, polyeurethane is not nearly as flexible as latex. If you're not "normal" sized, it might be either too loose or too tight for you, and they'll be more prone to tear, even if you have the right "fit."

What people don't tell you is they do not help that much in protecting against most std's....so i'm not sure any brand is better than another...even if you use condoms 100% of the time you are still very at risk for std's...so be careful!

pleasure plus. It's relatively new. my husband likes them best second only to lambskin (which is expensive and doesn't protect well against stds).

kimono ultra thin are also nice, however my hubby is bigger than most and found them tight, however they had the best sensation

edit: humberto is right- trojan supras are nice, and are made from polyurethane. but the ones i've listed above are better (we've pretty much tried them all at this point)

rank
1. lambskin
2. pleasure plus
3. kimono ultra thin lubricated
4. trojan supra
