I have been taking antibiotics but they do not seem to be working, we started them when I first got sick. I can't afford a Dr. and tired to go to a free clinc but they are closed. I am super weak and exhausted I feel as if I have run a mile and can't breathe. Should I have my husband take me to the hospital tonight?

Pnuemonia if it is viral displays the symptoms you describe, however, bacterial pnuemonia involves a constant and high fever, shortness of breath at rest, extreme fatigue and is life threatening.
Viral pnuemonia has no medication to treat it, you simply have to rest, take lots of fluids and wait for it to pass.
Bacterial pnuemonia requires antibiotics and sometimes hospitalization to treat.
Your best bet would be to watch your fever status closely. If your temp goes over 102 and is sustained it is time to see a doctor.

An RN has given some advice and it sounded good to me. Keep a close tab on your fever.... Get some Tussin DM for the cough---I've been suffering with similar symptoms and got some relief from the coughing with that cough medicine. Take aspirin or something similar for the headaches....Drink lots of water... And eating hot soups will help too. Sitting in a misty bathroom helps the breathing. The key here is to pamper yourself and keep an eye on the symptoms and if they do get worse....go in and go quickly. Pneumonia is a deadly thing to be dealing with and there are different forms of it... So you've got to be careful here. Sometimes it's better to be safe than sorry...... Good luck and hang in there! My pneumonia started out as bronchitis. The doctor put me on a Z-Pack and sent me home. One week later, I was almost dead. I could walk only a few steps without losing my breath. Each morning I had to start out coughing for about 30 minutes and fight to catch my breath. I didn't really feel anything in my chest, like pain. The biggest factor was my breathing. Luckily, when I went back to the doctor, I was able to get immediate treatment for the condition, which cleared things right up!

The only way to really know is with an x-ray of your lungs. If you have it you are not able to release flem. It collects in your lungs and it burns! Take mucinex so you don't get it! You don't want it!!!!

You sound like you have an upper respiratory infection or a sinus infection. You really should go to a doctor unless you just can't afford it! Try Day quill/NyQuil they usually make you feel better at least! But if you have an infection you really need an antibiotic!

When I had pneumonia, I couldn't breathe without starting to cough, I ran a high fever, and I felt really terrible. You need to get it checked to find out if you have it, it's dangerous.

Funny(now)story about it...I was prescribed Amoxycillin for pneumonia and it turned out, unknown to me at the time, that I was allergic to it. So, not only could I not breathe and was coughing my head off every time that I took a breath, I was broke out in this huge whelts which itched like crazy.

Get well soon!

I would get checked out. I had pneum a few years ago and had all the same symptoms. on top of that, I was absolutely drained. I would get up from the couch to get a drink and would become physically weakened by the smallest exertion.

There's probably a walk-in clinic or a health dept. that will allow you to pay on a sliding scale. Don't wait--you can't afford to not go to the doctor--my spouse died of this. I'm hoping you have the flu instead.

Flu symptoms are often similar to pneumonia symptons, but the only way to know for sure is to go to the doctor.
