I think the way the doctor put it was wrong because thats not something very comforting to say to somebody who is seeking their help. I think he was just trying to say that at your age it isnt usual to have heart problems unless it was hereditary because then it isnt really your fault.

Doctors just sometimes auotomatically assume things because science says so and supports it. But it will take time to determine the cause of it if you dont already know the cause. Some people are born with heart problems and never get signs or symptoms of it until later on in life. Sometimes what you eat or things you take can trigger heart problems that were already there or create ones that weren't which i think he was saying isn't ok, not the fact that you do have a heart problem.

I'm 25, I have heart disease and my doctor told me it was triggered by things i ate and alcohol which no isnt OK at all because I should have never been drinking or eating so unhealthy.

He should have made it more clear, regardless of if its ok or not you have a heart problem and it isnt something that can be reversed. You need support from doctors and info on what to do to prevent further damage, not to be criticized.

Here is a website that can let ppl see how many kids and teens have these problems: http://kidshealth.org/parent/medical/ and http://kidshealth.org/teen/diseases_conditions/

haha, a ER doctor told you that? Someone who works maybe 12-24 hours a night seeing different cases and having no specialties in their career? I would've blown him/her off and consulted a cardio doctor "stat". It is very common for the youth to have problems. I mean, many young basketball players and athletes died of their heart stopping right on the court. Just because one authority person said it's true doesn't mean it is. If your child, or you, has something, do some research on some heart conditions and then consult a specialist.

It is possible for a person of any age to have heart problems. For example, if you were born with an undiagnosed heart defect, this can affect you when you reach puberty or into your late teens.

There have been cases of athletes in college and university that have suddenly found out about a hole in their heart that needs to be repaired, and I even remember a hockey player who collapsed on the ice from a heart attack caused by an undiagnosed heart problem. (The coroner confirmed that it had nothing to do with illegal drugs or steroids)

However, is it OK to have a heart problem? No, it is not okay. It is not common in younger people, and heart conditions usually develop after 35-40 years of age.

It depends on what the heart problem is. People can be born with a congenital heart defect and even young people can develop such things as heart arrhythmia's.
Having heart disease at a young age would be very unusual though.

Also it's not a matter of whether it's okay or not; what matters is finding out what's really wrong by having your son see a cardiologist and then taking whatever action for treatment that needs to be done.
I wish you both all the best.

I am 16 years old. Last February, I had heart surgery. So no, 19 years old is not too old, and it's not okay. Actually, it depends on what kind of heart problems you're talking about. I had mine since I was born, BUT they didn't discover it until 15 years later! So I highly recommend that you have an EKG taken, it's usually a one time thing, and it can save your life.

You don't say what kind of heart problems. So it would be hard to answer your question on here. Go to a cardiologist and get some test. Find out what kind of problems you have, and having heart problems is never ok. Good Luck.

No it's isn't really ideal, perhaps you should ask the doctor some more questions about this. The only heart problem a teenager should have is a broken one.

Heart problems are never ok! Some heart problems are inherited and genetics are a pain, some we create with out weights and what we eat. If you are the one with the problem I would seek out a good cardiologist and get in ASAP!

It is not ok but very possible for a 19 yr old. Anyone at any age can have problems, unfortunately.
