Before I went veg in 2003, I was underweight (I didn't want to eat anything because I thought meat and animal products were gross...)
But since becoming vegan, I've actually gained weight to the point that I've been in the healthy/average range for a long time. :-) I eat a lot more now. I enjoy my food because it doesn't come from animals now.
I also do a lot more cooking for myself. That probably has something to do with it to.

I went vegetarian about a month ago and have lost 10 pounds so far. I still eat some chips and junk food, but from not eating meat and replacing it with vegetables, I've been able to lose weight. Most vegans (only eat food from plant sources) are skinny becuase they don't eat all the products that carry the animal fat, and eat tons of vegetables, which have almost no carbs, and only natural sugars and fats. Also, excerise is always helpful. It all depends on your body, how active you are, and what foods you alow yourself. Soda is also a problem. I don't really drink it that often anymore (rarely more than 6oz a week) so that helps, too. Some ppl don't lose weight, or very little, because either they still eat a lot of junk or their body just doens't lose the weight.

I am not a vegan and pretty much vegetarian. I do not eat red meat or fish, though at least once a week or so I have chicken. When I first lost weight I cut out sodas and butter and am now very bread conscious. I hardly ever eat bread or pastas, never eat eggs or cheese, have soy milk in my cereal or skim milk. I eat a ton of salad and veggies and fruit. Usually for breakfast I have oatmeal with raisins or bran flakes with a banana, or yogurt with a banana or kashi go lean crunch. My indulgences are coffee with soy creamer or at the holidays the eggnog creamer, and peanut butter on apples or celery or with a banana on wheat bread! YUMMY! also, almonds and walnuts are good in salads and to eat minimally.

I'm not a vegan, but I went vegetarian about six months ago, and I've lost almost 45 pounds. This is deliberate on my part, however, because I've been exercising and watching calories, too. My overall health has improved drastically: low-normal cholesterol, normal blood pressure, and lessening of joint and muscle pain.

Cutting out all extra sugar has helped a lot, too. Those sodas with 30+ grams of sugar really packed on the extra pounds, I've come to realize. Between the sugar and the meat, I wasn't doing my health any favors.

It depends on the diet, sometimes you lose, sometimes you gain. If you eat a healthy vegan diet, you'll lose weight. If you sit around eating pasta, bread, and soy delicious all of the time, you're probably going to end up gaining weight.

Depend on the food you eat....
some vegan will even gain weight as they add many spices in their food to taste....
Even if you eat meat,,,you can lost weight by controlling the amount of food you eat....
in every meal,, make sure their is 70% of vegetable with 30% of meat....

i've lost about 15 pounds so far in about 6 months and have pretty much stopped there. I still weigh 185 pounds though and I'm 5'10". I'm not over weight but I could still stand to loose a bit.

I turned vegetarian when I was 13 (I'm 14 now), so since I'm growing, I haven't noticed any major weight change. I've never been overweight, so there wasn't really any unnecessary weight to lose anyway.

In our OBESITY society being thin(skinny) is not the problem.
Our view of weight is very off, FIT people are trim, with good muscle tone.
