Can't get to the doctor until later in the week, just wanted to know if anyone has any remedies that will help them to be less painful and go away quicker.

Haven't had the occasion myself (thank God), but here's a few of the things I've heard (take them for what they're worth):

Try taking the supplement Lysine, which is available almost any grocery or drug store. Some people think that it can help shorten the duration of an outbreak. Also, taking it regularly could help prevent outbreaks.

Stay hydrated (also good for prevention, supposedly). Drink lots of water, and keep caffeine, sodas and alcohol to a minimum.

Avoid exposure to UV rays, i.e., sunlight. Many people experience outbreaks after a serious sunburn, so avoid tanning beds, and wear lots of sunscreen when going to the beach.

Keep the affected area clean. Wash GENTLY with an anti-bacterial bath soap, and dry (preferably with paper towels). Be VERY careful with towels and washcloths - use them only once before laundering, whether used on the affected area or not, because you can actually spread the virus that way, to yourself and possibly to others.

As long as you have "open" lesions, apply an alcohol-based astringent, like Sea Breeze, after washing the affected area. I would imagine that that hurts like hell, but it should help dry up the lesions, and could *help* keep the virus from spreading until the skin heals.

Keep the affected area dry. Follow up towel-drying and/or astringent with a hair dryer. Use a medicated powder, like Gold Bond, to keep the area dry and to help cope with the symptoms.

Wear non-restrictive clothing - increasing air flow keeps the affected area dry.

When you get to the doc, ask about a "suppressive therapy" regimen. Once an outbreak gets going, the anti-viral drugs won't help very much - you have to start taking them VERY early in the outbreak. On the other hand, regular, preventative doses of one of several related drugs typically will decrease the frequency of *future* outbreaks and shorten their duration, and in some people will prevent future outbreaks altogether. Suppressive therapy may nor may not be an option for you. For one thing, it only works if you take the drugs regularly (usually at least once a day), which means that it's expensive, especially if you don't have good health insurance. Valtrex seems to be the drug of choice, but a generic version should be available soon, and the cheaper acyclovir (the "original" drug in this family, a.k.a. Zovirax) also can be used for suppressive therapy.

I got diagnosed with herpes virus (type 2) about five years ago, when I was still in college and had a foolish one-night stand. I realize loads of people say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a mistake that one time and suddenly it seemed like I was going to have to live with the consequences for the rest of my life. The hardest part was feeling I could never date guys again. In the end, who wants to go out with someone who has sores round her "you know what" area? But since a friend shared this video https://tr.im/0VI1n everything got better.

Not only was I able to clear away all remnants of the herpes simplex virus from my body in less than three weeks, but I was also able to start dating again. I even met the guy of my dreams and I'm so blessed to write that just last week, in front of everyone in a busy restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me!!! This method provided me the chance to be happy and experience true love again. Now I want to help others by sharing this story.

Try taking Tagamet aka cimetidine to help lesson the severity of the outbreak. Also use tea tree oil on the sores. Since this is an immediate problem I am not sure why the docs office is not seeing you till later in the week. I would call again and request an emergency appointment.

My mother says try running it hot water or putting a Hot Mustard patch on it, or try taking a cold shower while reciting the alphabet backwards and singing with a stray cat. But since my mother has the same goofy remedies for everything try using a over the counter triple antibiotic ointment. This usually lessens the pain and speeds up the dormant process of most of the people that I have known to have Herpes. Also kicking the butt of the person that gave it to you doesn't hurt.

Valtrex, if you break out often, take it daily to prevent the breakouts. Why don't you see if you can get to the dr's earlier, like an evening appt? Many dr's would get you in right away with that particular complaint...
