The test you have when you are hungry or not hungry or both?

I heard that there is another test and they give you sugar orally or sth like that. Is it necessary to be done as well apart from either or both of those tests?

The three main tests associated with diabetes are the simple blood glucose level; the HbA1c blood test, which shows the average blood glucose level for the previous 90 days; and the glucose tolerance test, where the patient drinks a glucose solution and blood is tested several times over a period of hours.

Many doctors now consider the HbA1c to be the best diagnostic test and no longer even order the glucose tolerance test. The glucose tolerance test is used more to see how the body processes glucose than to diagnose diabetes these days. A fasting glucose test alone isn't always a good indicator of diabetes because too many things, including stress, can cause that single reading to vary.

Fasting blood glucose test is done when you have not eaten for at least 10 hours. If this comes back high a glucose tolereance test (GTT for short) is done. The GTT is done from fasting. A blood test is taken and then you have to drink a glucose solution. Then wait....a second blood test is taken after 2 hours (some places do 1 hour and 3 hours tests also). This is the diagnostic test which will confirm or refute diabetes.
There is a 3rd test called the HBA1C which is done 6 monthly, this shows the long term control of the diabetes. A diabetic should aim to get this to about 6.5%, non diabetics will be around 5.5% - 6.0%;

Blood tests are used. It may be beneficial to you, though, to have a glucose tolerance test. This involves several blood tests over several hours and will show how severe the diabetes is, if you have it.
Otherwise, just a finger prick test could give you results in a few seconds. These should be done three or four times throughout the day, before and after meals, recording the results, and sharing them with your doctor.

Usually a glucose tolerance test shows if you are a diabetic or not.

It's called the OGTT or Oral Glucose Tolerance Test.

It tests your post-prandial response.
