I recently went to the doctor for swollen tonsils and a sore throat. He suggested blood work and a X-Ray since I have had ongoing sinius problems. He was confident the X-Ray would give me a good result and told me not to worry. Yesterday the hospital call and suggested I get a CAT scan due to a englarged gland near my lungs.

I quit smoking a month ago, and I am still coughing up brown stuff, and on occasion I have some streaks of blood in my phlem. My chest pain is all towards the right of my chest, right next to my nipple basically. And the pain only comes when I move a certain way. My doctor thought this could be from Costochondritis.

I am just wondering what could be wrong? I look up lymph node problems in the chest and all that comes back is lung cancer, and hodgkins diease? I have also told this could be something as minor as alergies or my sinius infection.

Just curious what this could be, could it be related to me quitting smoking?

Thanks for any help, I am stressing out!

I forgot to mention I am 27 years old, and I am a male.

I am going to get this scan soon, I have just been so sick and stressed out waiting on it.

All my friends tell me its probably nothing, and I am making a big deal out of nothing, and to quit worrying.

Thanks for any help.

Jody, the positive thing is that if you have swollen tonsils, a sore throat and ongoing sinus problems (probably infection) then the swollen node could be nothing more then being related to that.

There are literally dozens of reasons why lymph nodes may become enlarged ath the overwhelming majorityt are noncancer related (1) When nodes become enlarged it is called lymphadenopathy.

Your doctor was right in your need for a cat scan.

BTW...costochondritis, just like pleurisy is incredibly painful. So bad it can even make you think you are having a heart attack. Just take care, do what the doc says and things should be fine.
