I had itching, burning and irritating bumps in my vaginal area. The doctor did a pelvic exam on me. He told me I have a yeast infection and vaginitis. He told me it wasn't any type of STD's because my cervix wasn't sore. Plus I took an STD test in October 2006 and everything came back negative. Anyways he gave me some medication and I just wanted to know when should it kick in. I read 3 to 5 days, but I just wanted to ask.

No he just gave me pills. The burning went away, the itching is annoying me now. I was thinking of going out to buy anti-itch cream.

I live in America where health insurance isn't free and not everyone has a doctor. I've never had problems like this before and I don't have a doctor. Why would I just sit there in pain if there's somewhere I could go for relief. I don't get doctors and nurses at all. You guys are some rude people.

There are other vaginal creams as well like Monistat, you can also use a vinegar douche. The acid in the vinegar counter acts with the acid in the yeast infection.

To begin with, vaginitis is a yeast infection. Just another word for it. And you should have been given only 1 pill. Diflucan works with one dose after about 48 hours you should have no more symptoms. However, Monostat makes a wonderful topical cream for the itch.

Just next time, don't waste the ER doctor's time with your minor female problems that you should be going to your OB/GYN or your PCP for. There is nothing life threatening about a yeast infection. Emergency rooms are for people with potentially life threatening problems. Quit wasting our time!!! (We laugh at people like you when you leave.)
