Hi my niece had the same problem. There could be a few reasons for this. A combination of mold as well as smoking in the house, or asthma. Or if you do have mold in the house it can cause the asthma to become worse. But the best advise i can give is to take her to your G.P. But my best bet is Asthma.

You need to be more specific. Having had 3 children, there are different kinds of coughs. Dry, congested (mucous), occassionally sporadic, constant spams... so if severe (take to a dr), if not, here is my basic knowledge:
1. Place a humidifier (cold) blowing directly over your child;
2. If mucous, do 1. and apply Vic's Vapor Rub to the chest;
My Mom even put it on my throat and wrapped a towel around my neck on given circumstances;
3. If sinuses full, put Vic's Vapor slightly under the nose.
The idea is to keep the airways open.
Persistent coughs need to be seen by a dr in case of whooping cough. Bronchitis and asthma runs in my family.
Don't know how old your daughter is, but if congested, Benedryl
is good because it not only helps with the congestion, but helps your child sleep. It can be a stimulant, but have found it
worked when my children were sick.

If you are putting her to bed in too warm of an environment, this can cause her to cough. During the winter, moisture is literally sucked out of the air due to running a heater for warmth. You could try putting a humidifer in her room and make sure the room is not too warm, and that you are not dressing her in bulky clothing. Try it and see if it helps. If not, you may have to take her to see a physician.

Could be asthma or her sinuses..If you have carpet in your house you really need to get rid of it. Pet's are a no no too. Check your house/apt for mold it can cause a lot of things also. If you have your child a doctor make sure it's a pediatrician they specialize in children you don't want a doctor that see grown folks doctoring on your child they can really mess them up. Take it from me I work for a pediatrician. We have had so many children come in our office that have had nurse practitioners and family practice doctors mis-diagnose their children.

try putting a huminifitier in her room. With the weather being cold and we are using our heat then the air becomes dry and if she has asthma or something like this, the humifiter would really be good for her. But talk to her dr. first.
